DVCPRO, also known as DVCPRO25, is a variant of DV developed by Panasonic and introduced to the newsgathering (ENG) equipment market in 1995.
Unlike basic DV, DVCPRO uses a bound audio track, meaning that the audio sampling clock is synchronized with the video sampling, and uses 4:1:1 chroma sampling in both 50 Hz and 60 Hz versions to reduce generational signal loss.
It records audio at 16 bit/48 kHz bandwidth.
DVCPRO uses a wider track width on the tape, 18 µm, compared to DV's 10 µm track width, which reduces the possibility of dropout errors during recording.
The cue and time code are recorded on two extra longitudinal tracks.
Tape runs 80% faster than DV, resulting in shorter recording times.
Long Play mode is not supported.
